Chapter 18 - The Woman I Trusted With My Child

Police found Marianne at a lakeside cabin.
She surrendered.
During questioning, she admitted contaminating the bottle.
She refused to describe details.
She only said Richard had told her Noah would never actually drink it.
“He said Lily would stop her.”
Elena stared through the interrogation glass.
That was impossible.
Unless Richard knew Lily’s identity.
He did.
Richard had known who she was since the day she was hired.
He allowed her inside deliberately.
Why?
Because he expected Lily to search for Thomas’s evidence.
He wanted her to find it for him.
Noah had been bait.
Elena’s stomach turned.
Richard had gambled with an eight-month-old baby’s life because he believed Lily would intervene.
“What if she hadn’t?”
Marianne whispered:
“Richard said accidents happen.”
That sentence destroyed the last excuse anyone could make for him.

Richard was not protecting a family.
He was protecting himself.
