Chapter 10 - The Grandfather Noah Never Knew

Richard contacted Marcus directly.

He wanted a meeting.

No police.

No Nathan.

No Elena.

Marcus agreed publicly.

Privately, Monroe wired him.

The meeting took place in an abandoned yacht club.

Richard appeared exactly as the photograph suggested.

Alive.

Marcus’s first question was not about money.

“Why did you let me believe you were dead?”

Richard answered:

“Because being your father made me vulnerable.”

Marcus nearly hit him.

Richard admitted participating in the trust theft.

But claimed Nathan eventually took control.

He also denied touching Noah’s bottle.

“I went into the nursery to retrieve the bracelet.”

“Why?”

“DNA.”

Richard needed Noah’s DNA to establish whether the trust audit could be challenged.

Marcus asked the obvious question.

“Is Noah mine?”

Richard laughed.

“Yes.”

The real issue was Elena.

If Elena was not biologically Jonathan Hale’s daughter, Noah’s beneficiary status would collapse.

Marcus stared.

“What are you saying?”

May you like

Richard smiled.

“Ask your wife why her birth certificate was filed six months late.”
