Chapter 11 - The Birth Certificate

Elena’s birth records were wrong.
Not fake.
Incomplete.
Her mother had given birth during a storm at a private clinic.
The physician died years ago.
Hospital files disappeared.
Nathan had certified Elena’s legal identity.
Convenient.
DNA testing became unavoidable.
Elena hated it.
She felt as though strangers were dissecting her family one blood sample at a time.
The result came back.
Jonathan Hale was her biological father.
Richard had lied.
But the test revealed something else.
Victoria and Elena did not share the same father.
Victoria learned the truth at the same moment.
Their mother had conceived Victoria before marrying Jonathan.
Nathan had known.
That explained why the trust’s wording had been changed from biological to recognized descendants.
Not to steal from Margaret.
To keep Victoria eligible.
Jonathan had protected Victoria.
Nathan later exploited the amendment.
Victoria broke down.
For thirty-nine years she believed Jonathan was her father.
Biology changed nothing about the man who raised her.
But it changed everything about the money.

If the original trust language returned, Victoria lost her stake.
Someone had spent decades keeping that from happening.
