Chapter 14 - THE ROOM WITH NO WINDOWS
The abandoned research building triggers Anna’s buried memory.
The white room after the crash was here.
Not a mysterious underground compound.
Not a secret super-vault.
An old private clinic owned through a shell company.
The simplicity makes it more frightening.
Anna remembers waking.
Bell treating her injuries.
Voss visiting.
Victor standing near the door.
Voss telling her Daniel had signed the relocation papers.
Anna remembers asking to call Daniel.
Victor telling her Daniel did not want the baby.
This is the moment she truly believed Daniel abandoned her.
Daniel hears it and nearly loses control.
Anna stops him.
“No.”
“You don’t get to turn my pain into an excuse to become him.”
They find the room.
The bed is gone.
But scratched into the underside of the windowsill is Anna’s handwriting:
D + A.
HOME.
Daniel realizes even while drugged and frightened, some part of Anna still did not believe the lie.
They find Voss’s recent computer logs.
He plans to destroy the main archive the following night.
And he has already sent Victor to obtain Jennifer’s final original evidence.
The evidence is not in the red folder.
